The Village of Mount Prospect is pleased to introduce its new Director of Building and Inspection Services (BIS), Archana Mohanchandra. Ms. Mohanchandra started with the Village in August following her role as Building Division Manager for the City of Highland Park. She joins the Village’s Leadership Team after the retirement of Bill Schroeder, the Director of Building and Inspection services for the past 20 years.

“Archana’s direct experience in the management of municipal building departments, along with her academic accomplishments differentiated her candidacy,” said Village Manager Michael Cassady. “We are looking forward to her positive contributions to the organization and the residents and business owners in the Village of Mount Prospect.”

Mohanchandra holds a Bachelor of Architecture from M.M. College of Architecture in Pune, India, and studied Interior Design at Harper College. She is also a certified Residential Building Inspector through the International Code Council.

Prior to beginning her municipal career in the United States, Mohanchandra practiced independently as an architect in India. Her architectural and private-sector experience includes leading commercial and infrastructure projects and managing contracts, consultants, budgets, schedules, and quality control from concept through project completion. She also coordinated multidisciplinary teams across design, engineering, and construction. 

Mohanchandra went on to serve as a municipal plan reviewer and project coordinator at the Villages of Glenview, Oak Brook, and Hanover Park before her role at the City of Highland Park. She brings more than 25 years of combined experience in architecture, municipal building operations, departmental management, and strategic project administration to Mount Prospect.

Adding to her well-rounded knowledge of the field, Mohanchandra is also actively engaged in her home community, the Village of Long Grove, Illinois, where she has volunteered her time serving on the Historic and Architectural Commission and the Village’s Plan Commission and Zoning Board of Appeals.

“I am excited to join the Village of Mount Prospect and have the opportunity to serve this community,” said Mohanchandra. “Throughout my career, I have believed that Building and Inspection Services is about more than codes and permits—it is about people, partnerships, and helping projects move forward successfully. I look forward to working collaboratively with our talented staff, residents, businesses, and development community while continuing to build on the strong foundation that has been established here.”
